I’ve never loved The Secret, as a book or a movie. Maybe I missed something, but the primary message I came away with after reading and watching it was that if I hope for something long enough, it will happen. That is probably a little bit of an over-simplification, but I still feel like they were a little too altruistic in their representation. What they were really missing was action. However, I do agree with the general premise of the story, and that is that what you focus on will become greater. This is otherwise known as the Law of Magnification.
When I first started my business, I wasn’t concerned with growing my business. I was just there, doing what everyone else was doing. And, funny enough, because I did what everyone else did I started getting what everyone else was getting. It took me about 12 years to realize that I wanted something more; I didn’t just want to own or run a business, but I wanted that business to grow and expand (and eventually be self sustaining or be sold).
14 years later, I can see that everything was about my focus. Once I started focusing on growing my business, things started getting better. I’ve had several years now that I’ve set new records. I hope my story gives you reason to pause and consider: what do you think about when there’s nothing else? What is it that you focus on more than anything else? The answer to those questions is important, because it will affect the outlook of your entire life in the years to come. Thus, if you want to become truly successful, focus on the things that need to be done to accomplish your goals, whatever those goals may be.
