I’ve talked a lot about what I term the “principles of success.” I truly believe in them, and I think they are all important to achieving success. A lot of people ask me though what the one key to success is. In reality, there isn’t just one. There are many little things that need to be done in order to get where you want to be. However, there is one very important key to success that I’d like to talk about today: action.
There are many people out there who know the principles to success, but many of them don’t do the one thing that will make those principles actually helpful: acting on them. I worked with a man during my coaching named Dwayne who was really good at applying this simple principle. When I work with clients, I usually send them home with some homework. This guy actually did the homework he got! When I gave him 3 weeks to hire a virtual assistant, he had hired someone, begun training, and had them working full 40 hour weeks by the time we met again! He went out and created his own website, doing his homework to make sure he knew what he was doing. I felt strongly that this man was going to make it in the appraisal world. Here was a man who got things done.
At the end of the day, knowing something will only get you so far. It is the action we take on the knowledge we have that truly matters. If you’re not content with your business or your life, maybe it’s time to stop thinking about making a change, and start actually doing things to help you get to where you want to be. You won’t get anywhere without action – that’s what makes it such an important key to success.
