When I first started coaching, I was told by many people that I should write a book. I was on fire with the good news that you didn’t have to be frustrated with your job, working long hours and getting nowhere. I had a model that I had found to be successful for me, and I was ready to share it with the world.
It didn’t take me long to learn, however, that not everyone runs their business the same way. In fact, not everyone wants to run their business the same way you do. Instead of telling people “Here’s the path to success, here’s what you need to do, follow me and let me lead you there,” I started asking them what their goals are. What was their idea of success? From there, I was able to help people find practices and models that would help them in their goals.
Not everyone has the same business model. Not everyone has to have the same business model. Running a business is a very individual matter, and the way each of us runs our business is determined by individual goals, values, and visions. Knowing what you want and where you want to be is the first step in determining how you’re going to run your business.
