I have a server. It’s not the racks, the room, and the computers buzzing that you may think of when you hear about a server. It’s just a large desktop computer that holds all my software, and I am able to access it remotely through VPN anywhere in the world. I was truly amazed by this during a trip that I took with my wife to Australia a little while ago.
Just let that sink in for a moment. I was on a trip in Australia. My home and office are in Idaho. I was about as close as you can get to halfway around the globe from my computer (just the flight from California to Sydney was 14 or 15 hours). While I was in Australia, I wanted to be able to access my server. And, surprisingly, you don’t need a fancy server to do this.
You can do this with any Windows 10 machine, specifically using Windows 10 pro. Windows 10 pro comes with a program called remote desktop login. Using an app called RD Client (which is available for apple and maybe for android – android users let me know), I can log in to my server remotely and do anything that I need to do. I could write up a whole appraisal from my phone, if I wanted to.
This is a great little app, and makes remote access of your server a breeze! RD Client with Windows 10 pro is definitely a game-changer. If you travel a lot – or just need a weekend away sometimes – this is a great little piece of technology that allows you to do all you need to do while you’re away from the office!
