The Best Way to Predict the Future

Getting older got you thinking about retirement? Well, hopefully this isn’t the first time it’s crossed your mind. It’s never too early to think about what you want your job to look like long term. And the ideal retirement plan might look different for you than it does your neighbor. Maybe you have a last day, turn in your keys, buy an RV and travel the country. Maybe you keep one foot in the door at the workplace until the day you go six feet under. You could also find a lot of fulfillment and meaning in service opportunities, hobbies, visiting family, etc. and the things you choose to do don’t have to include a paycheck. But no matter what you want your retirement to look like, one thing is the same: the best way to predict your future is to plan for it.

Although it may be a painful thought, you won’t be able to climb up into attics for the rest of your life. There will come a time when walking around a piece of land, getting down in a crawl space, or physically driving to a property is not going to be possible for you anymore. Bodies get old and worn out. And if you wait until the last minute to make plans, you have waited too long. Whether you are 62, 42, or 22, now is the time to be thinking about what your life is going to be like when you get to that point.

What does retirement look like for you? Maybe you’ve already got your last day eagerly circled on the calendar. Maybe you’re in the camp where you don’t ever see yourself retiring. Either way, there will be changes in your life. Are you prepared for those changes? You probably don’t want to take a huge cut to your finances when you retire, so how are you setting things aside? Have you been contributing to an IRA? What does that preparation look like for you? If you need to sit down and talk through your personal circumstances, go through your finances, or discuss your individual plan or your vision for the future, send an email to [email protected]. As you take time to plan for retirement, it will give you peace of mind now and set you up for success in the future.
