Steps to Help You Love Appraising

I’ve been doing appraising for most of my life, and I can honestly say that I love my job. I love running a business, I love driving around my beautiful state, and I love poking around people’s houses and seeing how they live. I look forward to going to work nearly every day, and today I want to talk about a few things that you can do so that you can also look forward to your appraising job.

Firstly, make sure you are in a role that you love. Find those things that you love about appraising and then make sure you are doing those things. Delegate the aspects you dislike to others as much as possible. Similarly, make sure your employees are in their right roles. In other words, make sure they are in roles that they enjoy and are good at. If someone (including you) loves their job, then they will be more likely to succeed at it.

It is also important for you to be successful as an appraiser. I know the stress of living paycheck to paycheck. When I first started out, I’ll admit, at times it was really difficult for me to be an appraiser because of that stress. Find out what you need to do to make your business a success and start on the path to accomplish that goal.

Spend time organizing your life. Are you taking regular breaks from appraising? Are you building relationships and taking vacations? If all you ever do is appraising, then it should not be a wonder that you don’t enjoy it. Organize your life in such a way that allows you to enrich your life with other things besides appraising.

Finally, choose to have a good attitude. I understand that there are certainly things that happen that prevent us from being happy 24/7. But overall, happiness is a choice, and we can choose to love what we do and focus on the positive.

I think it would be tragedy to spend most of your life working at a job that you don’t love. For some of you, appraising may not be the best fit for your life, but I would guess that appraising can make most of us happy if we tweak a few things. Figure out what you need to change so that you enjoy appraising again and then do it.
