Make a Difference in Your Appraisal Business Now

The majority of the business principles that I teach are not a quick fix. They cannot be quickly implemented and then immediately begin yielding positive results. It took me a long time to get my business to where it is now, and I am still, constantly improving it. The truth is, while I hope to make the process of transforming your business easier for you than it was for me, it will still be a long road. However, there are a few things that you can implement in your business now, and you will begin seeing positive results sooner rather than later.

First, go paperless. Start implementing some of the incredible technology and software available to us as appraisers. Many new and exciting software can change the way you do business. Correctly implementing technology will save you a great deal of time and ultimately improve your quality of work.

Second, start the hiring process. Your business will not go from a one-man(or woman)-show to a thriving appraisal team overnight. You have to start somewhere. I would start by hiring someone to do basic-level tasks such as data entry and scheduling. There’s even a good chance that your first hire will not be the right person for the job, but you have to start looking if you want to begin delegating some of the appraisal process.

Finally, look for appraisal processes in your business and find out ways to simplify them and save a lot of time overall. For example, nearly every order comes via email with a corresponding engagement letter. Implement a procedure that is standardized for you and your employees so that when each order comes in, it can be processed in a way that you can remain organized and efficient.

Ultimately building the appraisal business you want takes a lot of work, but there are some simple things you can do now to improve your overall model. You have to start somewhere, so rather than letting the ultimate goal overwhelm you, begin implementing baby steps today.
