I don’t know about you, but I eat out for lunch nearly every day. We appraisers are on the road a lot, and eating out is typically the easiest option. As many of you know, this past year, I have focused more on my health. I try to go to the gym at least five days a week, and I have been trying to eat healthier. While I am no expert in health and fitness, I wanted to share some of the things I have learned as I have tried to live a healthy lifestyle that works with my appraiser lifestyle.
First, probably one of the best things you can do for lunch is pack a lunch the night before. That way, you can ensure that you will get a healthy meal. However, I personally love eating out on a daily basis. It gives me a break and something to look forward to, so I try to find healthier options while on the road.
As a general rule, I try to avoid carbs. Most restaurants (even fast food places) will allow you to convert a sandwich or burger into a lettuce wrap or salad. Rather than getting a soda, I will typically get a green tea or water. Fries or other greasy sides can often be substituted for a side salad. Additionally, I have found recently that counting calories also helps me stay on track with eating healthy. I personally use the My Fitness app.
Ultimately, what I eat for lunch tends to determine how the rest of my day goes. If I eat crappy, I feel crappy and sluggish. But when I eat healthy, I find that I have more energy to get me through the rest of my day, and I feel better about myself. What about you? Where and what do you eat. Please share in the comments.
