The Importance of Vulnerability
Jun 14, 2026
For a long time, I believed that success was mostly about figuring things out on my own. I took pride in being self-reliant and pushing through challenges without much outside help. And while that independence did get me somewhere, it also slowed me down more than I realized. What I’ve come to understand is that growth really accelerates when you stop trying to do everything alone.
One of the biggest shifts for me has been learning the value of vulnerability. It’s easy to talk about goals and surface-level problems, but it’s much harder to admit where I’m actually stuck. The moment I started being honest about the real challenges—the messy, uncomfortable parts—everything changed. The feedback I received became more specific, more actionable, and far more helpful.
I’ve noticed a clear pattern in group settings as well. The people who hold back tend to stay in the same place, circling the same issues over and over. Meanwhile, the ones who are open and transparent seem to break through barriers much faster. It’s not because they have all the answers, but because they’re giving others enough insight to actually help them.
What really changed my perspective is realizing that vulnerability isn’t weakness—it’s a shortcut to clarity. When I’m willing to lay everything on the table, I give others the opportunity to see what I can’t. That outside perspective is often exactly what I need to move forward. It saves time, reduces frustration, and leads to better decisions.
I’m still working on this, because being that open doesn’t always come naturally. There’s always a hesitation, a temptation to filter or hold something back. But every time I choose honesty instead, I see the difference almost immediately. Progress comes faster, solutions become clearer, and I feel less stuck overall.
