The Importance of a Clean Environment

I recently had an experience that reminded me just how important our environment is to our success. I was living and working up at our Montana hobby farm for several weeks, sharing a fifth wheel trailer with my son. He’s been living there full time, and while I love the guy, let’s just say cleanliness hasn’t exactly been his top priority lately.

When I first walked into the trailer, I was hit with clutter—bags unpacked, dishes in the sink, clothes on the floor. Now, my son used to be the cleanest kid in our house, so I know he's capable of order. But like so many of us, he got caught up in the grind. Work came first. Tidying up became “tomorrow’s” job.

Then came the news: his mom—my wife—was coming to visit. Suddenly, we found time for a two-and-a-half-hour clean-up session. It wasn’t a deep clean, but it was enough to transform the space. And you know what? I felt different. More focused. Less stressed. More efficient.

Clutter doesn't just take up physical space—it steals our mental energy and even costs us money (ask me about the bolt cutters I replaced, only to find the originals an hour later).

Whether it’s your office, your car, or your mind, a chaotic environment impacts everything. Take a look around. What needs cleaning? What could you put away, fix, or organize today that might just make tomorrow smoother? The time you spend tidying up will pay you back tenfold—in peace, clarity, and productivity.
