Taking Your Business to Soaring New Heights

I love my coaching. There’s just something about helping other people succeed that brings me a lot of joy! Something that comes up a lot during my coaching interviews with people is coming to the conclusion that it’s time to hire some help. Their reaction is usually something like this: “But what if I hire someone and they don’t work out? What if I hire them on and then business goes down and I can’t afford to pay them anymore?” What if – it’s so amazing how two words can petrify us into inaction.

I want you to imagine, for a moment, that you’re watching a bird perch on a branch. They don’t hover above it, testing and hesitating and wringing their metaphorical hands. They simply fly to the branch, and perch. You see, the bird doesn’t trust the branch, really. It doesn’t have to. Instead, it trusts its ability to fly. That bird knows that even if the branch breaks, everything will be okay. They can simply fly to safety. They have a back-up plan.

What can we learn from the bird? First, don’t let uncertainty stop you in your progression. Sometimes a leap of faith is required. Just go for it! Second, make sure you have a backup plan. The “what ifs” can be very helpful in making sure we are prepared for potential setbacks, as long as we don’t let them petrify us. Use those fears to your advantage. Take time to prepare. Instead of letting fear run your life, let it be an asset to you and your business. Be like the bird!
