A lot of appraisers I talk to are trapped in the exact same cycle. We work long, exhausting hours, sacrifice time with our families, ignore our health, and put off our personal passions. We tell ourselves the same lie my dad believed: "I'll work hard now, grind through it, and enjoy life later when I retire."
The harsh reality is that tomorrow isn't guaranteed. My father worked himself into the ground his entire life, only to have his health force him into an early retirement he couldn't even enjoy. That realization hit me hard recently. Hitting 50, welcoming my first grandchild, buying a farm, and seeing my youngest prepare to leave the nest completely shifted my perspective. Life isn't about constantly putting off happiness for some distant date on a calendar.
Building a Business That Serves Your Life
There’s a massive misconception in our industry that making more money requires working more hours. The truth is actually the opposite if you structure things correctly. By leveraging proper delegation, modern technology, streamlined business systems, and AI, you can drastically cut down your working hours while actually increasing your income.
Working smarter allows you to reclaim your calendar today. You don't need to wait until you're 65 to start enjoying the simple pleasures of life. It can be as small as stepping away from the office early on a weekday, spending an evening on the back porch listening to good music, or taking an afternoon off to spend time with family.
Take a hard look at your daily routine and ask yourself why you do what you do. Are you running your business, or is your business running you? Stop putting your life on hold for a future retirement. Reevaluate your processes, delegate where you can, and start living your most excellent life right now.
