Managing Attitudes

I recently had a conversation that completely shifted how I think about leadership in the workplace. We were discussing office culture, and someone made a point that really stuck: sometimes, an office manager’s job isn’t just managing orders, phone calls, or technology—it’s about managing attitudes.

At first, it sounds simple, almost obvious. But when you stop and think about it, it’s profound. The culture of an office doesn’t come from processes or systems alone—it comes from the attitudes of the people within it. If negativity, gossip, or disengagement is allowed to flourish, it spreads quickly. Conversely, when the people leading the office set the right example, it creates an environment where professionalism, positivity, and collaboration thrive.

I’ve seen firsthand how one person’s attitude can ripple through an entire team. Even the most talented employees can struggle if the culture around them is toxic. Leadership isn’t just about checking boxes or keeping operations running smoothly—it’s about setting the tone, modeling behavior, and fostering an atmosphere where people want to do their best work.

If you’re in a leadership role, the most important thing you do isn’t scheduling, delegating, or even managing workflow—it’s setting the example for the attitudes in your office. Your energy and mindset will echo through your team. Focus on that, and everything else falls into place more naturally.
