Appraisal Quality Control Procedures

On Labor Day last week, I wrote an article titled “Four Types of People.”  The purpose of the blog post was to show you how I see the working world.  I carefully wrote the content, submitted it to my editor, and prepared it for distribution.

Because it was a holiday, I was at home, surrounded by my family.  I had many things on my mind when I sent it out and, admittedly, \was a bit distracted (gonna blame it on my children).  Nevertheless, I have done this a thousand times, right?  I went through the motions and hit the SEND button of no return.  It was only then that I realized I had not linked the article with the teaser.  My readers would not be able to hyperlink to the rest of the article!  Ugh!  It was a surreal moment akin to noticing your keys in the ignition as you let go of the locked car door to close it.  Too late!

The funny thing is; I have procedures in place to avoid those kinds of stupid mistakes.  Before I send out any email campaign, I always send myself a test email and look it over for aesthetics, make sure everything is spelled right, and click on every link to make sure they all work.  Due to the previously mentioned distractions, I forgot to run the Quality Control procedure.

Do you have a QC procedure in place for your appraisal products?  Who checks your reports before you send them to the client?  Is it you?  If so, could you benefit from a second set of eyes?  Do you ever get rushed or distracted and hit the send button without even looking it over?

I have found that one of the reasons for my success in the real estate appraisal world is my attention to detail.  I do not take for granted that my clients love me now and always will.  My clients use me because they trust my work.  They know I will not send something out hastily, but only after it has been checked, double-checked, and thoroughly scrubbed for exactness.  When that process begins slipping, I would expect my volume to do the same.

Now, go create some value!
