Get Out and Get Involved

You might not think it’s possible, but I’ve learned firsthand that small actions can have a big impact. There was a time when I felt a little defeated by the system. I was involved in politics for years, pushing hard for change, only to feel like my voice was getting lost in the noise. After some years of burnout, I scaled back and began questioning if it was even worth trying to make a difference.

But then something happened that renewed my faith. A small group of people came together in my community to push back against a tax hike that would impact us all. We rallied, we shared our voices, and despite not being able to vote myself, we stopped the tax from passing—by just nine votes. It was a turning point for me. It reminded me that, no matter how small the effort or the community, making a difference is still possible.

That moment has stayed with me and reinforced a powerful idea: we all have the opportunity to be heard. Whether it's in local politics, or in our profession, our voices matter. The appraisal industry is changing rapidly—forms, regulations, new data collection practices—and we have a choice: sit back or engage. You have an opportunity right now to speak up and shape the future of this field, to ensure that our voices are heard as we navigate these shifts.

Don't let frustration silence you. If we don't show up, things happen without us. So, let's make sure we’re part of the conversation, no matter how small the steps might seem. The stakes are too high not to.
